How long is the Pieterpad?
The Pieterpad is approximately 500 km long, running from Pieterburen in the north to Sint-Pietersberg near Maastricht.
Our self-guided tour is designed to be completed in stages, making it accessible and flexible. You can walk it one section at a time or enjoy a longer continuous journey—it’s up to you.

What kind of landscapes will I find along the Pieterpad?
The Pieterpad takes you through the true diversity of the Dutch landscape:
- Polders and dikes near the northern coast
- Forests, farmlands, heathlands, and meandering rivers in the central provinces
- Hills, vineyards, and old mining villages in the south near Limburg
- It’s a gentle and ever-changing route that reveals the Netherlands far from the tourist crowds.
Is the Pieterpad well-marked?
Yes! The route is very well signposted, using the standard red-and-white markers of the Dutch long-distance trail network (LAW). In addition, we provide detailed GPS navigation through our app, so you can walk worry-free.
When is the best time to walk the Pieterpad?
The ideal seasons are spring (April–June) and early autumn (September–October), when the weather is mild, the landscapes are vibrant, and trails are less crowded. However, the trail is accessible year-round, and each season has its charm.
