One of our core values is transparency, especially when it comes to our commitment to sustainability. We aim to share our goals, progress, and the concrete actions we take every day in the clearest and most up-to-date way possible, so you are always informed about what we’re doing—valuable information for anyone choosing us for their trip.
As every year, here’s an update on what we’ve accomplished in the last few months as part of our ongoing efforts to reduce our environmental impact.
For several years now, we have been collaborating with Rete Clima to offset the CO2 emissions generated by our customers' travels and our business trips. This is done through supporting sustainability initiatives in sensitive areas facing various environmental challenges.
In January 2024, through our partnership with Rete Clima, we supported the certified renewable energy generation project VCS 1461 "Grouped Connect Solar PV Power Generation Project in China." The project involves seven solar sites across northwestern China, generating electricity through renewable photovoltaic solar energy. The estimated average annual reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from the seven project activities is 302,268 tCO2e.
This project brings environmental benefits through the generation of accessible, clean energy and social and economic benefits through tailored training programs for engineers and plant operators, as well as the creation of new jobs.
In the spring of 2024, in collaboration with Rete Clima and the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, we participated in a reforestation project in Sesto (BZ), in the Pusteria Valley, where 60 plants, including trees and shrubs, were planted to reforest an area affected by wind and snow damage caused by the Vaia storm of 2018, along with further snowfall between 2019 and 2020, and later by bark beetle (Ips typographus) infestations. This project holds great value for the Italian Alpine region and contributes to the re-naturalization of an area impacted by natural disasters.
A major new initiative this year, which we are very proud of, is a pilot project aimed at the accommodations along the Via Francigena. We have long wanted to create something that not only compensates for but actively reduces impact and supports good practices in environmental sustainability by working directly with our suppliers to help them develop and implement better resource management, alongside enhancing traveler satisfaction.
The initiative, which we have developed with our partners Territori Sostenibili and BehaviorSMART, includes both online and in-person training, combining theory with practical tools that are easy to integrate into daily operations at accommodations.
Through an assessment of their environmental impact, participating accommodations can follow training modules focused on sustainability topics—such as reducing single-use plastics, lowering water consumption, or minimizing waste production—and, by the end of the project, assess their improvements in terms of environmental impact and cost savings.
The accommodations participating in the project are located along the Via Francigena between Lucca and Buonconvento. They are mostly family-run and cater to walkers and cyclists, who are naturally sensitive to sustainability issues.
The project and training are funded by us and will continue from November 2024 to October 2025.
We are about to obtain another environmental certification, in addition to the Travelife Certified status we achieved in 2023. This certification will provide concrete and neutral documentation of our commitment.
It shows that we have implemented an effective environmental management system to achieve the concrete, measurable sustainability goals we have set.
Our sustainability reports and policy are always available to our travelers, documenting the concrete actions and goals we are pursuing.
